Visit http://www.comalis.com/dominios/ in Spanish so maybe have google translate open, most of the steps are just click Continue except the part to enter contact details, on phone number use the format +353. (with the . after country code) or registration will fail.

Just enter code EURO2014 in the very last step of the registration on the right hand side.

If you get email with error go to http://clientes.comalis.com/client/domains.php (select English if needed top right hand corner) click on the domain, click on the text an error occurred during the creation of your domain name, click here to correct it the error should help you resolve the problem, mine was about the phone number but a friend had the error on the postal code, changed from 24 to Dublin now waiting

For how long? And what will it cost to renew?

Registration is for 1 year, not sure how much for renewal but you could move to another registrar after the year.

    Beware of "unlock fees".

(Not here in particular, I haven't looked. In general with domain offers.)

    See the post from daveohdave.

I assume it will be ok, in the Control Panel there's an option to get the "Domain Unlock and Auth-ID" that code is normally used when transferring domain to another registrar. Also in the Whois the registrant field does have my email address.

Again, it was more of a general warning.

As an example, MrSite.com recently charged a client of mine GBP£30 to "release" a domain name, and another was forced to pay €75 to an Irish web developer who had set themselves as the admin-c on a domain. They've since unlocked the domain, but still haven't processed the transfer, so next step the registrar, ICANN and WIPO. All of which will cost the client more time and/or money.

Free or cheap domain sites are notorious for this kind of thing. Even a couple of Irish mainstream hosts tuck their renewal fees away out of site because they're higher than their registration fees; which is less obnoxious but still cheeky. So, always read the Ts&Cs.

Bad 'bargain'. Check the non-discounted fees for .eu domain after the first year here: http://www.comalis.com/dominios/tarifas

At €12 per annum after the first year, it's coming in at almost twice the cost from a local registrar.

Nor would I assume an easy unlock or other decoupling. Domain names are cheap enough, so only a bad business would skimp on such fees to save a few bucks while taking such risks with something so critically important as a domain/brand name.

Half price - £2.64 at the moment and they generally dont feck around with the prices. http://www.internetbs.net/

In general I stick with namecheap now, prices are sometimes great, usually good and always ok, service is great.

I think that's more to do with the web designer being a w@nker though.

In the case of the crappy web guy yes, but MrSite is just one of many mainstream services that practice this duplicity, and with the likes of them you're getting vendor lockin on your domain AND your site.

At least with the likes of WordPress.com you can export your content; with these douchebags the best case scenario is wget -m. Which a fair whack of web developers don't even know how to do.
