Im currently 38 weeks pregnant and started my maternity leave 5 weeks ago due to work getting too difficult from stocking shelves and being on my feet all day.. I was just wondering does anyone know when my maternity benefit will start? My form was sent in late over work losing it and me having to start the process again.. I sent it in nearly two weeks ago and have still to hear back from them..

the first time my maternity took about 3 weeks to come back as accepted, but this was weeks before I went on mat leave.

ring them, the maternity section are brilliant in my opinion.

Your entitlement to maternity benefit and the 26 weeks started ticking the last day you were at work .So in your case presuming your baby is born in your 40th week (ideally) you will have 19 weeks after baby comes.

I rang them but they told me there was a back log for maternity forms and some thing about not getting around to it till the 20 of June.. I'm due two days later so I was really hoping I get it before then as I could really do with the money at this stage..

You could try the CWO for an SWA or ENP if you like but its means tested and if you do get anything it will be deducted from your arrears.

I got a letter this morning saying they got my form and would contact me when a decision is made about me getting the maternity benefit.. Is that the norm with everyone?

That letter is probably on foot of your phone call. Ideally Maternity Benrfit should be applied for 6 weeks before commencing maternity leave. .If this is done then that ensures payment is in place when maternity leave starts.
Considering pepole know they are pregnant for months beforehand , this doesnt seem unreasonable.
Its not really Maternity Benefits fault that you didnt get your application in on time.

Oh I know its not.. Its my jobs fault.. Had to send it to hq in cork and they lost it and only told me a week or two after that so I had to start all over again.. It took them two weeks to send it back the second time after I chasing them down for it..

I sent my forms on the 22nd may due to like you work mislaid then for 4 weeks (H.R. Told me they had been posted to me as I was off on illness benefits) but I got my first payment the 9th of June.

There was no back log with it as far as I could see I was amazed but definitely give them a call they are excellent to deal with.
