Hi guys I was just looking for some feedback or to hear other golfers experiences on this issue .

Basically I started to play Golf 2 years ago and in that time iv made a decent improvement . But the more you play the more you learn and iv learned the power in your swing comes from your lower body .

But my swing is all powered by my arms and I'm sure this is a common problem with guys only taking up the sport . I could continue to play like this but I feel I won't get much and I really lack distance . I done alot of research today on finding drills to clear the hips and even spent 1 hour out the back garden trying this new swing and as you can imagine it feels quite alien .

Now I'll book a lesson for next week but I was hoping to hear from anyone that had to go trough this swing change and how long did it take till you taught it felt right ?

And did it make a huge difference to your game and add distance and more consistent ball striking ?

    Cheers lads

Took about a year and in that year my handicap went out 2 shots, i have since gotten them back.

i don't hit the ball much further, maybe gained 5-10 yards with driver but ball striking consistency improved so much. I can also hit my 3-iron which i was never able to do before and i use it frequently off the tee now

good luck with the change :) and do get lessons to help it!

What I will say is have a look at yourself physically. Age and wear and tear can actually stiffen up the hips. Also sitting at a desk all day for years can 'turn off' the glutes which are vital for using the lower half for power.

You may need a bit of strength and conditioning in that area. I'm doing it at the moment as my glutes had gone on strike! Good luck with it.

Went out this morning to try practice this new swing but just couldn't get to grips with it at all . Don't get me wrong I didn't expect this to happen in first session but I didn't think it would be as hard to pick up .

When I get to the top of my backswing I have to completey stop and then try clear my hips and swing trough , but it just had no tempo to the swing .

I'll just try to improve with the swing I have 😊

A golf swing is essentially unique when you start out. It's unique in that as you start playing golf you find something that's comfrtable, that your body can do, and give some decent results.

When you go through a swing change, your changing something that feels natural, so its going to feel awkward. Your moving your body in parts you weren't before. So it's going to feel stiff, uncomfortable.

Personally I've made swing changes myself. I've decided what I wanted to achieve, gone to youtube for some videos, and then implemented it. However while I made great leaps last season I feel like I'm not kicking onto the next level.

Toying with the idea of lessons. I got lessons when I was younger but wasn't impressed. It was group styles, and while I was on single figures the majority of the group was on higher handicaps. I was being given what looked like a "one fits all" lesson, so ended up abandoning it.

The fear I have is that a coach would probably change a lot of things. I'm not orthodox, I know I do some things construed incorrect, but I've made them work for me.

I've a lot of money built up in the account though, so going to speak with my pro over the weekend and see what options there are for some lessons.

While my shortgame feels good, my driving feels good, something not right with my irons and approach game.

If I was to be totally honest. I've rarely heard or played with someone, who has become a better golfer as a result of lessons. Shocking as that might sound, I think a lot of people who go for lessons, don't really keep them going, thinking they will get all the stuff they need in 1-3 sessions, or dont have the patience for the change to take shape, and drop what they were taught.

    Thanks for the reply .

I was out the back garden last night for an hour or so swinging . Basically I was trying another new swing . I know I'm crazy 😂 .

The whole swing taught is all left arm . Where in the past I was right arm . I'm now finding the top of my backswing easier . And my trigger for my downswing is my left arm pulling the butt of the club towards the ground .

My reason for changing my swing was to gain more club head speed and this swing feels like I'm doing that but without hitting balls I can't tell.

Anyone else use this method ?
