looking into buying a car in the next couple of weeks. Mainly I like the bmw's and am thinking about buying a 318 or 320 petrol but can't decide at all.

I'd like to buy from a reliable dealer since I have no clue about cars.
    12'000 - 15'000 km's per year, 5000 of it on highways

any suggestions? I like how the bmw's drive but would be open to anything else that feels good driving it and is reliable.

Further I think I'm going to keep it for 3 years and will be selling it then again. So should I be looking at something newer with higher milage or something older with lower mileage?

Is 10-12k a bad pricerange to resale in 3 years again? would you consider investing more (because...) or would you say get something cheap...? I assume that the resale value in this price range would fall back to 7'000 - 8'000 in three years but are not sure.

    questions, questions, questions....

    Thanks

I'd say you will probably be looking at resale value of about 50% of what you pay for one now, in 2 or 3 years time but my advice is don't be anal on resale value, just enjoy the car while you own it.

On a budget of 12k you should be looking at a 2008 model which will come with lower tax but watch out as the petrol engines of that vintage can suffer from injector problems and coil packs.

    Something like this:
