Dry skin after 30

I used always have good clear soft skin, but the last couple of years since turning 30, it just seems to be getting worse. My legs are dry and often have a scaly appearance. My hands and arms are dry.
When I get spots on my face, the redness seems to stay around after for ages (I'm talking weeks), whereas before it would clear up in a few days. My skin just seems so less healthy that it used to be...very frustrating.

I don't know if this is just what happens as you get older, but is there anything I can do? I really don't mind spending a bit of money on a cream if it works. I've tried the usual brands of skin cream that you get in a shop, but they just seem to briefly mask the dryness for an hour or so. I tried olive oil too, but it made my skin so greasy and after my next shower, it was back to the dryness again.

It could be related to your age (not that you are 'old' but people see some change at different ages)or it might be dehydration or something. Its worth lookin at your diet, and water intake too. I find the Aldi Lacura creams very good and I dont get on with most low-mid price range products. i hate cocoa butter, olive oil does nothin for me. There are so any different kinds of cream for sale and everyones skin reacts differently so it is worth asking for samples in a departent store or testing different products on your hand. there is one by la roche posay called cica plast baume b5 that i like. Some people find omega 3 supplements help with dry skin too.

Exfoliating is a must for dry skin, at least once a week. I personally love coconut oil. I make up my own homemade scrub. I melt the coconut oil in the microwave (be careful not to put it on too high it will get hot) then mix in some brown sugar. Then I rub into dry skin before showering. When you rinse it off your skin will feel lovely.

Every other day I would put coconut oil on as a body moisturiser before bed.

If you prefer something shop bought I love the sanctuary scrubs and lotions from boots.

Could I use ordinary sugar instead of brown?

Its only for the abrasive effect of the grains of sugar. The kind/ quality of the sugar is more relevant to actually eating/ drinking. Some people think the bigger grains in the brown sugar are more effective but the grains in most high end exfoliators are barely noticeable and much finer than white sugar nevermind brown sugar. Over time I believe you damage your skin by using anything too grainy.

Yes I had no brown sugar the other day so used white and it still felt nice and my skin still soft x

These little things look interesting for exfoliating gently..I've seen them online for about £7.00 and they're eant to last for a few months.

There's a competition to win one sponge, on their Facebook page. I think it's only running for another hour or so...

The skin will become drier as you age! Would definitely go with coconut oil on the body, it is amazing and smells great! Exfoliation and face masks every week. Use avacado and banana as a mask, or egg yolks also very hydrating. Your skin care will mostly likely need to focus on hydration so use products aimed for dry skin specifically!moisturise twice a day, and esp after exfoliation!
