Strange penalty points situation

When renewing insurance they asked exact dates of points I have. Got 2 late last year so rang RSA to find out details.
Now the weird part. Points applied 12 Oct 13. Expire 16 April 15.
That's only a year and a half not the normal 3.
    Anybody else come across this?

Was caught speeding in Sept. Ya got letter saying they would be applied in Oct. Just couldn't remember exact date.
Never got points before that so there isn't any kind of mix up there.

Does your licence expire on 16 April 2015?

It actually does. Would never have thought of that. Thank you.

You're welcome. Just make sure you renew it prior to it expiring so that the points continue to count down.

    Another PP question,

Do Penalty Points count as a "conviction" ??

what would happen if you let it expire?

my license is expired a fortnight with a few points on it. does it just extend the length of the points by the expiry time?

They will stop counting down if licence expires so it should be renewed prior to that happening.
