Thinking of getting a XBMC Dreambox

    Hi guys,

I see there's a seller on Adverts of Dreamboxes with XBMC.

I presume that these are legal as Adverts wouldn't allow these ads otherwise and they're not like the "dodgy boxes" I heard of being used in the past?

I'm thinking of getting rid of Sky and getting one of these instead.

Are they good value for €150?

Would love to hear from anyone who has one, how are you finding them?

What's the XBMC software like to use?

What is the hardware like on these, or what other options out there are there?

Bare in mind I wouldn't be the most technologically advanced so I don't want something I'd have to spend hours rooting and modding etc..

Just want something fairly basic that I can plug and play so to speak.

    Any recommendations or suggestions welcomed.

    Thanks :)

If you are in no way technical then I'd advise staying away from xbmc. It can simply be installed on your phone, tablet or pc to give you an idea of it.

A far easier option is to install mobdro on your Android and see what you think of it. Easier operating system.

Thanks for the advise hallo dare, it's not that I'm in no way technical, I'd just rather not have the hassle of having to spend hours rooting or modding a device, I'd just like to get something that works straight out of the box so to speak :)

Been looking at vids of XMBC and I have to say I really like the look of it.

I've also been reading about the Minix NEO X8 H - about the same price as a MX2 Dreambox - which one of these would be the better buy?

If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

I'm new to all these android smart tv boxes, so would love to hear any feedback or recommendations etc..

    Thanks all! :)

Android box is the way to go. The Minix has best support. Neo X7 or X8 would be best options. Presently the X7 has best support. The X8 is new product.
    See here for support:

Quickshot is the image I recommend.

You need to buy Dreambox 800HD. Next you need to install xbmc (app) to watch online tv channels. Also you can put cccam line and watch all the channels from sky (SKY SPORTS,SKY MOVIES ). Be careful with buying stuff from adverts . If you need any help pm me :)

I did not know you could install XBMC on a stb. Can you post a link on how to do that please?

You cannot install xbmc on dreambox 800hd. You can install a plugin that plays some of the xbmc addons, some very badly.

Dedicated media player for XBMC is best option.

    Hi Givecredit,

That is exactly what I thought - (it does not work on enigma2 based machines), but when daisy877 said that it does work I got confused :)

Yes a dedicated one, I have the MK908II myself.

    Cheers

Ok these devices are not even related to Dreamboxes so first off they are being misrepresented. They are Android devices capable of using the xbmc (xbox media center)programme in which you can get addons to view streams from all over the world for free. I sell these boxes to mates and they are a class device capable of viewing 1080p movies and even 3D. The devices are legal to buy but what you access then is the debatable bit.

I too am technically crap when it comes to these things, I have heard of Dreambox and I am very interested in this. At the moment I can get between 0.35 to 0.85 mbs and my other problem is that my modem is not located near the TV and there is no way of getting a phone point to the TV. Can I get a Dreambox or something similar and can I get one that is wireless with regards picking up a broadband signal? Are my present speeds good enough, I am with eircom

As previous poster said, there is no such thing as a dreambox xmbc.

What is it that you want?

Is it a satelite receiver eg a dreambox?

    or an android stick?

What is it you want to do with the device?

You need proper broadband no matter if its an enigma box or an android box. Both stream. XMBC on E2 is only a look its not the same as the real app.

2-3 meg is not fast enough.
