Hi there,
There is an issue with role permissions that is being worked on at the moment.
If you are having trouble with access or permissions on regional forums please post here to get access: https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058365403/you-do-not-have-permission-for-that#latest

Why can't reccomendation be given on threads?

I mean, whats the point of the forum if its not really free speach - or maybe I'm missing something? Is the forum originally meant for Dentist's only to discuss issues within the profession ?

Kingaaa, there is a thread on this forum where a poster claimed to be a very happy patient of a particular clinic, she could not rate it highly enough and told all readers to PM her for the name of the clinic. Turned out she is a sales representative for that particular clinic and receives commision for every patient she entices to go there. The temptation is there for clinics to post on here claiming to be satisfied patients, equally so the temptation is there for people who are unhappy for whatever reason to rip clinics apart (unfortunately that can also be other people with vested interests).

I see.....just thought that's what forums were all about, I've asked for reccomendations both abroad and at home - haven't received one. Kinda makes it seem like it's just a forum for professionals..........

The mods don't allow recommendations nor criticisms where specific clinics are named, which most believe is fair, there is absolutely no restriction with posters PM'ing you.

If it was a pub or a restaurant you were looking for then it would not be as strict but because it may involve surgical/clinical procedures, the bar is set a little higher.

Sorry Op, ultimately its to stop boards.ie getting its ass sued from someone who sees a recommendation and goes to a clinic and gets a botch job.

Unfortunately the majority of recommendations will people shilling their business and that is not something that is allowed on the forum.

Recommendations by PM are allowed, I have sent quite a few this way and if you look through some of the threads a lot of posters are more than happy to send a new poster a recommendation.

    A pub/restaurant isn't likely to cost you thousands in re-treatments :D

While there are dentists that post here, the majority of people are not dentists (me included)

Its not speach, its publishing. What you post is online forever and searchable on google. We have had problems with shills, and also disgruntled employees reviewing clinics. Unfortunately having no names allows the forum to function without getting sued.
