Fear of planes crashing/exploding above you?!

So last night a friend of mine mentioned how he is petrified by the idea of a plane exploding in the sky above him and raining debris down on him...

Its so bad that when he hears a plane nearby he will get slightly panicky(sp?). He said it started after watching several movies/tv shows which had similar events.

Like if 2 planes crashed into each other for example.

Anyone else ever heard of this phobia?

Honestly, I have this phobia. Every time I hear a plane my heart will start beating faster until the sound seems further away. I have had this phobia for about 10 years? I'd say. For me it's loud noises that I hate and the thoughts of a plane coming down (know that sounds nuts), I am also deathly afraid of fireworks, it's the sound. I wonder is your friend afraid of fireworks too? Wish I could help but unfortunately I have no answers but can relate!

I have this exact same phobia also. I don't mind flying but I hate seeing/hearing low flying planes. I often have dreams about planes crashing in the field next to my house and people lying injured all over the shop. Its horrible.

I think my phobia stems from living on the border and seeing low flying british army helicopters just rising up out of nowhere. They would be sitting in a field and then you would hear a gradual rumble. All of a sudden this giant machine appears above you. They would fly so low that the bottom of the helicopter would be inches from the roof of the house. They look even bigger when you are a small 7 yr old!
