    Hi,

I've been searching through the internet for ages looking for a car that is €600 or less with NCT and Tax. Is this impossible? I really can't stretch the budget.

    Check out bangernomics.
    Here's my offering anyway.

You'd get it for less than 375 and use the remainder to tax for 3 months.

What have you budgeted for servicing etc. A set of new tyres, all around balance and aligned will set you back €300+. Tax will need to be renewed at some point. Insurance will be largely dependent on age and experience. If you are a young inexperienced driver your first policy could cost you several thousand. Servicing about €150 a pop. You could be getting yourself into a dead end if you don't have more to invest in a car. They cost money to run too.

Plan could be to run it until tax&nct expire.

=> potential zero of your costs are relevant (insurance is payable no matter what you drive so not really a factor)

You'll be better off getting a cheaper car and putting it through the test yourself.
I recently got a 1.4 Astra for €50, new it was a good one but had been sitting up.
A mouse had eaten some of the engine loom but once back together it ran perfectly.
So I gave it a service and after the test fee and all it stands me €150!

It can be done no problem, but you can't just buy one you'll have to work for it.
You'll more than likely have to buy the tax yourself, it sounds like maybe you're not ready to buy a car.
You'll have to be prepared for a spend of at least €500 any year on servicing and upkeep.

Doesn't actually appear on the auction list so might be worth a ring if it's a hard price

If you dont mind what you drive theres loads of options. Ive got a 99 saloon civic, 1.4, 198k on the clock and its running perfect, does around 37/38mpg. It failed the last test on bushes but flew thru the previous one.
The paint is all worn off and it looks manky. I reckon id do well to get €5/600 for it because of the mileage and paint.
It would be a great car to buy tho if someone wasnt fussy and could get past its exterior.

I bought a 00 Fiat Punto with 3 months NCT and 1 months tax with a genuine 80k miles for 400 euros.

It's booked in for a new NCT on Friday, I don't forsee any problems. Drives very well and no marks or dents of any kind.

    So yes, it's very possible.

Whatever car you look at in that price range, make sure you bring a mechanic along to give it a really proper going over, because for every decent car you get for €500, there will be countless absolute lemons.

When buying at that price if your not able to view them yourself then there's no point trying as mech bills will bring the price up quickly if you don't find a decent one.
You'll have to have a decent idea of things yourself or it just won't be a cheap experience and you might as well buy a more expensive car at the beginning.
