    Hi All

I am so please with myself with my first build and thanks to all that post on boards as it was my inspiration to get custom building. Here is my build as it stands, opinions are welcome although I realize that the cpu was overkill but I took the gamble that it may extend the builds longevity!

My goal was max gaming experience for approx 1000 Euro

    Price: 64,34 €

Name: Cooler Master CM690 III, ohne Netzteil

    Name: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 ACX 2GB DDR5, PCI-Express
    Price: 306,55 €

    Name: Gigabyte H87-HD3, ATX
    Price: 80,96 €

Name: Intel Core i7-4770K Box, LGA1150
    Price: 288,07 €

    Name: Samsung SH-224DB schwarz

Nice build. How are games running on it.

Why do you get an overclockable CPU and then a non over clocking motherboard?

Ill be overclocking down the line at some stage and will upgrade the motherboard then. At the moment I am gaming and I am happy with the performance so far BF3 Ultra Settings 80 FPS approx so far.

Was that fix actually implemented by intel to disallow overclocking on h/b87 and just allow on z? A quick google didn't show much since last July when it was announced

Well, grats m8. Enjoy your new Master Race robes. That peasant outfit can go in to a bin! :pac:

Just next time, when you upgrade or build - post here. A second pair of eyes is always handy to have when you building. Something that you dont notice, someone else will. It will save you money, time and "pain in a hole" moments.

Your system looks good, but you could have gone overclockable mobo for just a few euros and drop to i5 cpu to save another 80eu.
Changing just a mobo later on to overclock will be a major pain in a hole.

Other then that, enjoy and have fun m8.

I purchased my PC about a year ago now with the same processor (though previous generation) but without a graphics card. My total came to €900, so considering you got a € 300 graphics card in there as well I believe you did pretty well value for money wise. Of course further changes could have been made on your build such as a lower processor to save a bit more but overall it's pretty good.

The rest look fine, but i'd have an issue with these 3 components.

The i7 will be largely wasted as the vast majority of games only use 1 core. The extra cores afforded to you by the i7 give you little to no extra performance in most games.

I'd have saved here, and gone for a i5 instead. A 4 core 8 thread i7 is not going to outperform a similar speed 4 core 4 thread i5 in a gmae using 1 core only....

The savings i would have used to get a faster read/write speed SSD (EVO basic -> EVO pro) and a faster HDD.

Games these days are giving huge load times (BF4 a very good case in point here). The reduced processor would cost nothing in terms of framerates, while the improved storage would reduce load-times.

    CC.

Yeah wish I had have gone with the i5, I took the advice of a PC "expert" who convinced me to go with the i7. Fortunately I plan to add more hdd, ssd in the future so I can take your suggestions on then. Thanks everyone for the input.

I'm interested in making a start on my first build too and have a similar budget set aside as this. I'm starting from scratch though, so monitor and everything else is required. My knowledge goes as far as Linus Tech Tips videos and other sorts on Youtube! Not sure how beneficial that is! Just wondering, Hardwareversand seems to be the go-to-place on boards when it comes to desktop builds, I had spent most of my time on Amazon for research. I'm from Galway so Maplin isn't a trek away. Is anyone here used to dealing with them?

Im sure someone else here will help you avoid some of the pitfalls I made but watch this vid its the best I found, there are 3 in total.

One of few videos I haven't seen!! I'll give it a watch. I take it you bought almost everything from hardwareversand then? They do seem to have good pricing, again i can only use Amazon as comparison. The Irish sites seems to be a bit steeper again. You didn't seem to hit too many pitfalls though? Are you happy with everything overall? Since I will probably be overclocking (it seems when you can you're better off to do it) cooling is another thing I'd want to get right. This is when budgets go by the wayside!

Just make sure you get a clockable motherboard and cpu. Overall I am delighted im 35 and have waited over 15 years to build my own pc. Im playing near everything at max setting. Hardwareversand do seem the best way to go but their customer service is woefull and waiting for you stuff nerve wrecking. Also you have to EFT them the money by swift or sepa.
