Well the obvious choice is Taxi Driver but I guess you already know that one.

Some others that come to mind:

    Like Someone in Love
    Moon
    Red Desert
    Secret Sunshine
    Stroszek
    Under the Skin
    Wendy and Lucy

Doesn't exactly tick all of the boxes in your OP, but Into The Wild is a great watch IMO, a film about downing tools and just getting the hell away from it all.

Based on a true story, I won't say much more, but also has a serious sound track courtesy of Eddie Vedder.

There was a movie that came out last year with Olivia Wilde named 'Her' that was about a lonely introvert.

The Visitor is a favourite of mine. It's about a lonely widower who befriends illegal immigrants squatting in his city apartment.

Tom Hanks was lonely in Cast Away!

    Castaway on the Moon.

There is a Japanese remake of Macbeth but in their culture . I have it but haven't watched it yet . Pretty much sums up isolation and loneliness from society.

He Died With A Falafal In His Hand is one of my favourite movies. Based on a book / memoir. It's about a guy writer who constantly moves house, sharing with different people, and some of the same turning up every so often. It has the best non-Chevy Chase melt down of all time. I've watched it multiple times, and it's a serious recommendation.

Ghost World is, to me, a classic. Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi are perfect. A fantastic example of alienation and adult confusion. Based on a Daniel Clowes comic (He also did Art School Confidential, which was directed by the same guy). Highly recommended. Very funny, but a bitter sweet sadness.

Au Revoir Taipei may not be entirely what you're looking for. It's about a guy who's desperate to go to Paris to be with his girlfriend, and meets a girl at a book store he frequents, where he teaches himself French.

Come Rain, Come Shine is a very still movie, showing the final moments of a couple living together. She's packing her things, he doesn't know what to do, so he helps.

Sad Movie. What can I say about this? It's the antithesis of romantic comedies. For every relationship that works in the real world, there are hundreds that just don't, for whatever reason. These are those stories.

I'll add more as I think of them. Of the ones here, I mostly recommend He Died..., Ghost World and Sad Movie.

Into the Wild - Christopher McCandless literally removed himself from modern society and went right back to basics. Really interesting film, especially as it's based on a true story.

ryanciara, you have already received warnings about repeatedly starting these vague recommendation threads you have no intention of responding to or engaging with. Apologies to the posters offering suggestions.
