Salary expectations over the phone

    I got a call yesterday re a job I recently applied for. She quickly went over holidays, benefits salary etc and asked if figure she gave me was in line with my expectations which I answered yes before giving me a date for an interview. Is it possible to negotiate salary again at interview or does agreeing with her figure on the phone mean that salary would be now non-negotiable?

    Normally I'd negotiate salary if I got a job offer , not anytime before that.
    I guess how that applies to your question would depend on what the job is.

    Probably not a lot of room for negotiation. If you wow them at interview, you might be able to negotiate a bit, but for that kind of job (lots of applicants who could all to the job perfectly well) they may not be too flexible.

    Do the interview anyway for the practise, and see how it goes.

    These roles often have a fixed starting salary and bring everyone in on the same, so it's unlikely there will be room to negotiate. And as Mrs OBumble mentioned, there's no shortage of call centre applicants in Dublin at the moment.

    Does the job itself sound interesting, and does the company seem like a good one to work for? If yes, then consider how much you care about trying to haggle out an extra 1 or 2k.

    If you really need a higher salary then give them a call back and tell them you've done some more research/budget-balancing/whatever, and realised you'd need more money; then ask if there's any room for negotiation and tell them what range you're looking for. Worst case is they say no, and you're out of the process. Then at least you can get on with looking for a job that pays the right salary, and minimise wasted time all round.
