Road bike newbie questions

    Hello all

I've read the charter and the FAQ thread and the other road bike advice thread but , I couldn't find the answers to a few questions I have so I'm looking for some advice from more expierenced riders than myself. I recently purchased a new road bike( the giant defy 4 in case anyone is wondering) and had a few questions.

I'm not too sure what order to put them in but here it goes.

I went for a cycle recently and it was raining so my bike was fairly dirty when I got home so I was wondering what would be the best way to clean it and is there any specific product you would recommend to use to clean it?

Should I invest in a pair of cycling shoes I currently use runners when I got out for a cycle they are comfortable but I would like to know if purchasing cycling shoes would be of benefit to me and my cycling?

I try to get out on the bike everyday and do at least 30kms the most I've done is about 45kms most of my cycling route is on the flat with a few short climbs probably less than 100m each .I want to try test myself on some longer hill climbs I was wondering what should be the best way for me to approach it?

I have a few different routes I go I often cycle along a walk/cycle path which is along the coast so on some occasions I finding myself struggling against a strong head wind or sea breezes. I would like to know what is the best strategy when cycling into or against the wind low gears and peddal faster? Or build up momentum in the higher gears and try power through it?

Any other advice or tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks
