The Flashman Papers - George McDonald Fraser - Correct Order?

I just bought all the Flashman Papers and so far I'm loving Flashman [Book 1].
But I'm not sure what order to read them in. Can anybody help me?

When I look it up, I find different orders, sometimes Flashman's Lady is Book 3, and sometimes Book 3 is Flash for Freedom!
I think that the latter is the Publication Sequence, and not the reading order.

Does it make much of a difference?
Amazon has the books numbered differently too.

So far the first book is excellent .

I haven't read them myself but if in doubt I would always go for publication order.

Series like Asimov's Foundation books, Card's Ender's Game series and Pratchett's Discworld all have differing reading/chronological orders but I think you can't go wrong with the publication order.

If for example the fifth book in a series is a prequel and you read it first (as it's chronologically first) then you may be missing out on lots of references and character development relating to the other books.

Thanks, Yep, that's the way I was originally going and still plan to for now, but I then read somewhere that it may make more sense, or is best to read them in fictional Chronology.

Ah, I guess I'll stick to publication order unless I hear otherwise.
