As the title suggests, what is your favourite wax?

Have a feeling Collinite 845 is goin to win so may be i should ask "what is your favourite wax besides 845?"

Do you like your wax liquid or paste?

Anyone ever use Swissvax or Zymol? Anyone ever used a cheap wax like Halfords own brand or similar?

Personally havent had much experience with waxes. Using CG Petes 53 at the mo (thanks Detailing Shed) which i find to be very good.
Used AG Aqua Wax before which isnt that bad. Easy to apply n convienient but dosent perform as well as paste wax

Other than collinite I've used extra gloss protection which I think is very good, and Simoniz original paste wax which I also think is very good.

I've used Mer "ultimate car polish" also. It is handy that you can put it on a wet car but I found it hard enough to get off.

Britemax Vantage is my summer wax.
    845 for the winter.

Never tried that Simoniz Original paste. Does that Mer polish go onto wet paint? Is that not strange for a polish?

    Looks interesting. Might try that.

Anyone tried the Swissvax or Zymol stuff? At nearly €200 a tub, this stuff is expensive but is it better than less expensive waxes?

The expensive waxes generally have a higher content of carnuba wax in them and as a result are supposed to be more shiny. The tubs of wax at that price wouldnt be used on daily drivers; more so for show cars. They arent necessarily more durable, in fact the opposite is usually true. Your money would be better spent on other products on a daily driver.

Are you keeping this thread to favourite wax or do you really mean favourite LSP ( last stage protection); as LSP can be a wax, sealant, nano sealant, etc, etc....do you mean your favourite protection?

At first i was just wondering about waxes but feel free to put your fave LSP if thats what you use.

It was the expensive ones that had me wondering. At that price not even considering buying :pac:
Some are even €2000 approx (with free refills for life)
So if carnauba makes it shiny, what makes it durable?

    Looks interesting. Might try that.

    Yes,
Vantage is a pleasure to use.
Added glory can be had by giving the paint a coat of Britemax Blackmax first.
    Then 2 coats of vantage.

My favourite at the moment is autoglym HD wax.
A pleasure to use with really good results.
Well worth the price tag IMO.

Must try out collinite sometime though.
Has a bit of a cult following here.

Never used collinite would you believe! !!! At the moment my favourite lsp is actually a combo. I apply a layer of black magic detail Taurus and then follow up with two layers of (BMD again) sirius dark edition. Leaves an incredible gloss. All things considered though people should remember that the majority of the bling factor associated with lsp's is actually a follow on from good prep work.

Yeah I know.... Don't tell the mrs!! I'm a bit of a detailing addict tbh. Absolutely love trying out new polishes and waxes and improving my technique. Still couldn't justify splashing out on some swissvax waxes though....... Now that's expensive taste! !!!

Looks like i'll be sticking Collinite on my next Detailing Shed order. Itchin to try it now.
Would like to try that Chemical Guys - Black wax too but might have to wait at €70 a pop

    Anyone tried making any homebrews?

I'm a big fan of CG Black. Easy to use, smells awesome and has given me many months of protection. I think the only product that I'd replace it with would be Gtechniq.

C1? Seen some great beading pics on here using that.
*Note to self to buy C4 for my scuttle panel*

So basically - Polish = Shine

    Wax = Protection :D

    Or....
Preparation is 90%+ of the battle getting the car looking its best!

Exactly, Which is why I dont get the hype/fuss over different "designer" waxes.

Surely the job of any and all waxes is to enhance the finish after preparation(as well as protect obviously).

So the next thing to look for in a wax is durability. Imo, 476s FTW. They nailed the formula and havn't seen the need to 'keep up appearances' with the fancier labelled designer waxes.

I wouldnt be a fanboy of any brand in particular, but some products are the go-to product e.g. Tardis=tar, AG SRP=hand polish, Megs Endurance=tyre shine etc.. 476s is my go-to wax. For 20 quid from DS, you cant go wrong.

Jesus that was some waffle :P :D

Some nice waxes there. Yep, the Pete's 53 is a good little wax. There are some nice ones around in that price range. The biggest disappointment for me with a wax was SV Mystery. I just didn't like what it had to offer over cheaper waxes like Pete's. I've used a few other expensive ones but I'm not a huge fan of waxes. I prefer sealants generally. But as long as the prep work is done well, then you will be happy with your wax of choice. :)

By recommendation of Curran I bought CG Blacklight and CG Pete's 53 and used them in combination with Meg's clay bar, CG Honey(something) snow foam, Autoglym SRP and EGP.
(Yes, I've only gotten around to using them now :p )

I went Snow foam, clay, snowfoam and a mit + 2 buckets, drying towel, SRP, Blacklight, Blacklight, EGP and finally Pete's.

I have to say, I was already impressed with the Blacklight and by the time I got the Pete's 53 on I was blown away.
Beautiful, smooth wet look finish and still feels like glass now a week later.

So for me, Pete's 53 is my current favorite. :)

As far as cheap waxes go I find this one to be good enough.

    Waxes/LSP I have are:

Dodo Juice Blue Velvet - panel pot; find it prefers to stick to the applicator than go on the paint, even with a mist of QD
Megs Gold Class Liquid Wax - it is the old formula without the 'extra carnauba', looks great but doesnt last long
Joffs Wax - this is an old ebay purchase before I knew anything about detailing, at a guess I'd say it is along the lines of Coli 845
Gtechniq C2V3 - don't really get on with this much, maybe I just prefer to use traditional wax

But my favorite is Poorboys World Nattys Paste Wax, I have the blue one for dark colour cars. I keep coming back to this wax, it is easy on the pocket, smells great, easy to apply and easy to remove. Despite what you sometimes read on DW I find the durability very good. As I mentioned earlier I like waxing my car, so I don't need something that lasts 6 months+.

My next wax purchase I think will be Bilt Hamber Finis Wax or Victoria's Concours Red Wax. Although sometimes I think I should just get PB Natty's again as I like it so much. I have time to think about it because I have plenty of products already to get through before I need to purchase again.
