    Hello there, can anyone shed any light on this for me? I work for a UK company and we may be required to share the use of a company vehicle around reps based in the UK and me here in Ireland. As the vehicle would be registered in the UK is it possible for me to drive it here in Ireland without any problems?

    No.

    If it's use is mainly in Northern Ireland and you would use it occasionally In the Republic, then you may be able to let an exemption from the Revenue, otherwise just No.

    Its very possible you may be allowed.

    You need to read the VRT2 leaflet (the pdf version, not the website summary), then apply for the exemption. Whether you get it or not will depend on the decision the revenue make at that point.

    If they agree with your application, you will get the certificate at the back of the VRT2 leaflet, if they do not, you will need an ROI registered car.

    If the OP lives here then he can't drive the vehicle surely?

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vrt/leaflets/temporary-exemption-foreign-registered.html
    Check Sect 10.

    Summary
    You can only drive a foreign car (cat A) or motorcycle if it's used for primarily outside the State and it's provided as part of your employment contract
    You can drive a commercial vehicle (B/C) without such restriction.

    Revenue can permit other circumstances so it would best to give them a shout to see if you can get an exemption.

    Note : the foreign vehicle can only be used here for max 12 months, after that it needs to be imported or removed. (see sect 6 in above link)

    Vehicle categories are listed here : http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vrt/revised-vehicle-classification.html
    A = cars
    B = commercial vehicles <= 3.5t
    C = commercial vehicles > 3.5t, busses etc.
