Hey guys I'm currently looking for an upgrade kit for my PC as it's starting to show it's age, I'm happy enough with my graphics card (GTX 465) and power supply etc. is all in good working order so hence why I'm just upgrading the processor, ram and motherboard.

Basically my price range is 300 - 350 but I'd go more if I was getting better value for money, I'd be using the PC for occasional gaming and mainly music production(currently suffering sever buffer issues due to my CPU) Anyway here's what I've been looking at, but I've been out of "loop" for quite a while when it comes to hardware so any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Intel Core i5-3570K Box, LGA1155

    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9-9-9-24

    ASRock B75 Pro3-M, Sockel 1155, mATX

    What's your current build?

    Core 2 Duo 6600 @ 2.4Ghz overclocked 15%

    Asus Striker II Formula

    4GM Ram

So yea.. Well over due an upgrade just noticed that core came out in 2006 but I don't think I picked it up until 2008.. lol Overall the system has done a great run, I've never had any bother with it so hence why I've kept it so long.

If you can, go for an intel Xeon CPU if your mainly focusing on audio workload, what software are you running? Using many plugins?

Didn't even know the Xeon series was still around, I'm using Ableton Live and average track is working out at about 30-40 channels depending on the sound I'm going for with a bucket of plugins but nothing too process heavy since I was getting slaughtered in the CPU usage (Thank fawk for the freeze option)

Yeah the Xeon is basically an i7 that can't be overclocked and doesn't have integrated graphics, speaking of which it might be a non runner if you don't have a discrete graphics card.

With that many channels and plugins running I imagine more ram would help out a good deal, I'm not sure how much advantage ableton takes of more cores/hyper threading

I don't think you can overclock the 3570K with that B75 board (K chips are unlocked for overclocking). I think you need a Z75 board. Look here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2282329

If you went with Haswell (Current Gen) there is a refresh very soon called Devils Canyon. Apparently Intel have changed the thermal material and power delivery in the CPU so they can clock it higher. I'm no expert so I would be reluctant to advise you on specific hardware but I would wait until the reviews are in.
