316's are massively thirsty for what they are and morbid slow.

    Better with a 318 or 320.

Other than that it looks a straight, clean car. Do a check on her if you do go to buy it. :)

Don't want anything above 1.8 for tax and insurance reasons.....which is best site to do check on??

A bog spec bog engined BMW?

I'd keep looking to be honest. If you want it for the badge then so be it, but you could get yourself something far nicer than that if you were prepared to go non bog BMW.

Any suggestions dar83? I'm not fussed just thought a04 bmw for 2500 Euro was good deal.

What are your requirements from a car? Aside from the tax and insurance, what are you looking for?

A 1.8T Audi would be a much better bet than a 4 cylinder petrol BMW tbh.

The difference in tax between a 1.8 and a 2.0 litre (under 2000cc) is about €70 a year. I wouldnt be letting that put you off getting a better car.

I cant see there being a massive difference in insurance either tbh.

I think your first choice is a good one, ten times safer and more comfy than a 99 Almere and reasonably economical, but alas I think there all 1.9 but I'd still go for it for value, just listen out to for timing chain rattle and oil leaks. Cheap car if got for 2250

What do you think? I know its Paddy spec but don`t mind, its better than my current car , a 99 almera on its last legs!

Average of 8k miles a year would set alarm bells ringing for me. If it was an old lady who owned it I might believe it but I doubt it was! Or maybe I'm going too cynical in my old age.
