Copying letter to my solicitor. Is this allowed?

I was in an RTA a few years ago and last year i was compensated for a relatively minor injury. My solicitor handled it and I wrongly assumed that the original A&E bill was paid directly from the compensation.

Fast forward to a month ago and I receive a letter from the hospitals collection agency for several hundred euro. I always pay my bills, but this hit me at a bad time and I phoned the agency and spoke to the signatory. I said I didn't have the money at that time, but accepted the bill was mine to pay and asked what my options were. He asked what I could afford to pay and i said about 40%. He asked why I hadn't paid it when I was compensated and I told him the truth, that I thought it was paid. I told him that the bill was my responsibility and I would take care of it and it had nothing to do with my solicitor. I phoned 2 weeks ago for an update and he didn't have one. He said he would call me once he had news.

I decided today that I would settle the bill with the hospital because i had cleared other bills and freed up some space on the plastic. I arrive home and there is a letter from the collection agency saying that the full bill had to settled and it was copied to my solicitor. I am furious that this has been copied to my solicitor, because I specifically said that the bill was mine and had nothing to do with my solicitor. I have sent an email to the signatory demanding why he felt it was okay to do this. Is this allowed, or is this a breach of confidentiality? I feel that my private business has been shared unnecessarily and against my wishes as some kind of scare tactic. I am nearly regretting paying the bill now, but it also has nothing to do with the hospital.

Are there grounds here for a complaint and who would I complain to?
