Painting hardwood doors, previously varnished

    Hello,
I'm planning to paint my hardwood front door (outdoor, south facing and gets a lot of weathering)
It was varnished and I've managed to remove 95% of it with Strip-It.
It's sanded and ready to paint.

I want to paint it matt grey, not gloss, propbably a water based satin like fleetwood.

    What primer should I get?
    Will I need undercoat ?

    Thanks

    R.

The primer depends on the substrate, ie: hardwood. Any exterior primer should do the job really. Pop in to your local paint shop and tell them what you want.

The matt grey final coat will be harder to get than the primer - as far as I know the nearest is Farrow & Ball exterior eggshell, which has 20% sheen (ie: not quite matt).
