    Hi guys,

I’m looking to get my first road bike, budget is €6-700. Does anyone have any recommendations? I’d prefer to buy in store too!

    Thanks 

    Same here.....

Marrey Bikes, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo came highly recommended

    Im looking at these models:

    Specialized Secteur X3 @ €649
    Specialized Allez @ €759
    Scott 60 Compact @ €599
    Giant Defy 5 @ €625

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

In the same boat too. Defy seems to be the bike to beat in this category.

    Hi guys,
You could do a lot worse than casually meeting up with a local cycling club ,
You would get some honest feedback and advice from them regarding bikes,
Also gives chance to see bikes away from the bike shop , hence not being distracted by all the blingy New bikes on show.

Last December I went into my LBS who did me a deal on a 2014 Defy 4 for €650. I'm very happy with the bike and it does look a lot better than the current Defy 5.

I have the Defy 5. Picked it up last week. Lovely bike IMO with red and grey colour scheme. Very light and nice to cycle. Now if only my poor poor árse would get used to the saddle I'd be a happy camper :D

Thanks for the replies so far guys, will be visiting all the local (Cork) shops tomorrow. Can I ask about model names, is there any convention here, as in the following two Scott models appear to be the same yet have different names?

They're the same bike, from some basic googling the Pennyfarthing name is wrong as the Sportster is Scott's hybrid/MTB name...

    You can't change your arse,

Of course you can. Well not change it like you would a saddle but you can train it. If it is your first time on a bike in ages then it will most likely be uncomfortable for a while no matter what saddle you have, so there is little point in going out immediately looking for a replacement saddle.

In order of importance; time on the bike, good padded shorts, suitable saddle, and chamois cream all help.
