Hi .. I've decided to trade in my 08 1.9 VW TDI 110k miles . A local trader says it's worth 7k. .. And is offering a 09 avensis 2ltr diesel +5kish . I've no idea as to car values apart from a quick look at done deal. And they seem to be selling at quiet a bit more. Just wondering would I be better trying to sell private.. And buy direct from uk myself.. Any advice much appreciated.

There's only one person doing good out out of that deal OP and it's not you! It would help if you said which model of VW.

My advice would be to sell the Golf privately, they fetch very good money. Unless yours is a complete dog you will get a bit more than €7k for it privately. Go onto the likes of donedeal to get an idea of what other private sellers are asking for similar models. You will then have the advantage of getting a discount off the new car for buying it without a trade-in.
