Is it really hard to get the special rate of the susi grant? I honestly need it so much, without it I would not be able to afford college. Its only me and mum at home and mum doesn't work and I don't work. The only money we have coming in is mums job seekers and before that it was single parent family payment or whatever its called. Do you think I would be entitled to the special rate or would I get less?
    Can anyone help?

If you are living at home and dependent on your mother and she has been on a social welfare payment for 391 consecutive days as of 31st December 2013, then you'll be entitled to the full special rate of grant.

Get your mother to call social welfare and ask them to send out a letter detailing how many days she was on social welfare in 2013.

    Goodluck!!

If your sent a letter saying your entitle only to the €2000, go to your local TD and get them on to SUSI. I had a horrible time with SUSI last year & was not sorted till TD got on to them. Sorted within a week !
