Just noticed this bike clamped in Sandyford Industrial Estate this morning. Hope it's not a sign of things to come. He even went to the bother of not blocking the fire escape, or anything else that I can see:(

Maybe it is a strange place. Though there's been a bike parked there every day for more than a year. Previously it was a Diversion 600, so I'm guessing it belongs to the same person. Don't think the tyre was flat, just a poor quality pic.

Possibly same owner of both bikes and has access to a clamp in his job for security ??

That's what I thought at first. But no. The 'Do Not Move' NCPS notice was attached to the petrol tank, and the bill stuck between some cabling and the clocks.

That's a pain in the sack, what harm is the bike doing there.

As long as it's a private company, I'd happily cut the clamp off. Still, an inconvenience.

Saw similar in the IFSC before. No way i'd be paying any fine.

I wonder what would happen if the bike owner rang his breakdown assist and requested a recovery to his house :)

I'd just borrow a mates trailer or van and lift the bike on and deal with the clamp from the comfort of my own garage. Scrap metal is keenly priced atmo....

What about the damage to the tank paint and the forks ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,247 ✭✭✭goodlad

Thats right beside microsoft and there is always bikes parked around the place. It would be a pain i nthe rocks if they started clamping them.

I worked in the building you can see behind the bike for the last 8 months. Luckily we had a carpark so i didnt have to deal with this clamping crap.

I'm not suggesting doing anything illegal and on a completely different note, can anybody recommend a nice battery operated angle grinder?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,013 ✭✭✭✭Wonda-Boy

Would a battery operated angle grinder sort that yeah?

Exactly. These stickers are designed for windows not a tank which is why you never see them stuck to a car door. I would doubt it is possible to put a clamp on without doing at least minor damage to the forks and the wheel. I would be sending the clamp company a repair bill for the tiniest of scratches

Not sure man, thats why I asked, I was looking into it and perhaps a 42" bolt cutter might be something for the tool box.

That little padlock is a joke. Who needs an angle grinder. Honestly, clamping a bike is dumb enough. Clamping it with a pound shop padlock, that you leave lying on the ground....?

Company deserves to lose the clamp. Cold chisel. Lump hammer. Job done. Free clamp.

€9 a day, this would be well able for it:

If this sort of thing is going to get common it might not be a bad idea to have one of these doing the rounds in Dublin. We could all chip in on the costs (it'll be cheap) and have someone central hold onto it.

Yeah, a few were taken off on the motors forum, definitely an idea if it was regular. But TBH, I can't see this being a regular thing, a clamper chancing his arm or a complaint was made by someone and asked for the bike to be clamped.
I just hope the guy didn't pay, if he did he might give the clampers ideas.

have heard of a couple of lads going into tool hire shops, and when they tell them what its for, they let them have it for nothing :D

Just to let u know clamping companies take photos of vehicle and reg plate when they clamp u now due to a lot od poeple cutting the locks off. Angle grinder might not be a good idea anymore.

It's a bit of a grey area legally. Unless they have footage of withness of you cutting it off, they have nothing. And there's not one notice about vehicles being clamped in the area (not that I can see in the photos anyway)

They always took pictures but its hardly the owners fault if they come back and see a clamp on the ground beside their bike. Clamping companies don't want to go legal in case it goes against them and creates a precedent.

If they see you cutting it off, pretend not to be the owner of the bike/car. :p

I really want to learn lock picking - that might be useful skill to have with these type of clampers going around.

Doesn't make a difference if they can't prove you cut it off.

its a very grey area, but has as of yet to be tested in court, i do know that a few people had to buy them new locks as they cut the ones off but they did it in front of the clamper and handed him back the clamp,
But i know that the clampers from a certain company i won't name now drive with 2 guys in the van to make themselves seem bigger and more badass, however i think if they clamp the wrong bike it won't be just the clamp ending up in the river, it will be the van containing the the 2 of them too..
Clamping bikers is just a bad idea, and most bikes are parked very responsibly.

Maybe the owner clamped it himself

I'd personally love to see them clamp a club bike :pac:
