    Hi folks,
Were looking for advice, basically came into sone inheritance and just at the optimal time.
our car has packed in almost and we have a new addition to the household.
I want to take in a diesel 1.6-1.8 from the UK,looking to hold on to it for a year as we will be moving away after that.
Budget is 9k euro including the vrt,am hoping to get a car that wont cause me a lot of problems and that we can resell in a year.
Basically what second cars are popular in Ireland as I would preferably go for one that is desirable resell and what do you guys recommend for that money.
    Any advice very welcome.

If you're only keeping for a year then why go to the bother of buying something you'll have to sell again?
As in surely a €1.5k-€2k petrol car would do for the year, it'd probably be as reliable and you've nothing to lose in depreciation.

Can't understand the logic in this.
You want to go to the UK and bring a car over where you will spend 9k.
Keep the car a year and then move out of the country?
Surely you can see that you are throwing the guts of 9k down the drain?
Take a look in the bangernomics thread... I think you need it.

He makes perfect sense to me

    I brought over a 1.6tdci focus

If I sold my focus in the next year id make a profit and a very decent one too.

I can see where yee are coming from,to be honest I know that I could possibly break even on it theoretically if I get a good price in the UK and the car remains trouble free.
Am looking for ideas on cars as Ive gone the banger route in the past but its given me nothing but bother and financial drips/headaches.
just want a decent car to drive once in my life.

Where are you planning on moving to? Maybe instead of selling it you could just bring it with you.
But if you really want to go down the UK route then I think you should compare the total price per car for Ireland and the UK.
There aren't as many gains to be had anymore than in the past due to the Euro/Pound conversion.

Moving to a right hand drive country unfortunately,Im still seeing a big difference in price comparing carzonecand autotrader after factoring in the vrt and travel to the uk.
