Is €150 for a private eye examination worthwhile?

    As the title says,

I am not asking for medical advice, I am simply wondering if the cost is average or too high to see an "eye specialist".

I've a couple of problems effecting my eyes and have been months on a HSE waiting list to see a specialist. I have since looked down the route of private since I seem to have the money spare for a change and one particular place charges €150 for a consultation.

The doctor in question is registered as an Ophthalmic Surgeon, with the following listed on letterhead: "M.B.B.S., D.O., FRCSEd (ophthal)".

    Thanks in advance.

I've gone to one before and I found it was definitely worthwhile. I didn't have any problems, thankfully, but while I was there I also got a new prescription, which has been far better than any I've had before. He used an auto refractor rather than the 'better/worse' test I get elsewhere.

The cost is average for a visit to an ophthalmologist. However depending on what your problem is some ophthalmologists have different specialities so it might be worth looking into someone who specialises or has a particular interest in your condition

Thanks for the replies, yeah I'm probably going to go through with it. For the sake of a complete checkup I might as well.
