Cork Kinsale Route

Came fairly close to a serious incident yesterday on the main road from Cork to Kinsale past the airport, with a huge tractor overtaking some cyclists almost ploughing into the car I was in - the cyclists and tractor coming from the Kinsale side . . . no real comment on that where the tractor driver was completely in the wrong, but it just prodded me to write this, which point being that road is a very unpleasant and dodgy one to be cycling on, narrow, lots of blind corners, fairly heavy traffic with huge scope for irritated drivers trying to force an issue to get past.

Maybe a lot of people aren't aware of the alternative back road beween Cork & Kinsale which is incomparably safer, a hell of a lot less stressful and the road surface is fine. For that you go out to Bishopstown, take the main road to West Cork, past the Viaduct, after 7/8 miles left at the Halfway roundabout and just follow the road from there to Kinsale. Not a beautiful route by any means but I think it's virtually nuts to go the main road when this is an alternative option.
