    lads,

Looking for your opinions here. Have trouble recently getting some ignorant cows up the crush shoot. Also the main pen at the back isn't large enough for a heap of cows and calves coming in together. I can expand it to including the dead space shown on the left image.

I want your opinion on the barrier curved wall that the forcing gate meets. I want the gate to be able to lock in at multiple opints along this curved wall so that a cow or bullock cannot turn and arse her way back.

What's the best way to build the barrier and curved wall to do the job? Should it be block or some form of steel frame.

    Thanks.

    P.S
All external and internal walls are old thick stone/mortar built walls.

It looks a top job munkus. With the forcing gate, it say try also have a bar that can drop to the ground into a few holes on the floor so if an animal kicked the gate back it would drop and stop you getting flattened.

The curve wall I would block or cement so they can't stick their head out and be a pain in the arse to get up the crush. Looks like a good job.

I reckon the new forcing gate is a bit short . Until you get them the right side of it where it will meet the wall they will still be able to turn on you I think .
Maybe lengthen the forcing gate and splay in the wall it needs to meet so it will give you more space to control them with the gate . The splayed wall should help to funnel them in the right direction aswell

In this vid at about 6mins they half show a great system for a forcing gate with a curved wall, at the end of the forcing gate there's a sprung bar that pulls in and wedges against the curved wall, most of them have a verticle bar every couple of feet on the curved wall that the piece can wedge back in against incase the side panel is wet/ slippy.

I've seen a much better video explaining it but cant find it now,

It's also shown reasonable well in the red handling facility that Temple Grandin is talking about
