<1k Small Car / Van For Commute

I'll be needing one of these soon, ideally a car-based diesel I can register through the business. I'm thinking XRAD, Megavan, Golf, etc. Small-engined diesels in this price range seem non-existent, is it because they didn't have turbos at that time? What kind of MPG do they run?

Failing that, my car is old so I could put that on a classic policy and have a small petrol as a daily driver -- Corsa, Punto, Polo, etc. Obviously cost-saving is a concern, but an NCAP under the "lethal" range would be nice too.

Suggestions and tips would be much appreciated.

There were very few small engine diesels back then. Most car derived vans started out in life as passenger cars and were converted to vans when they entered the country. Also as they were classed as commercials it didn't matter if they were 1.4 or 2.0 litre for tax. I'd guess most car derived vans in the sub €1k price range will be dogs at this stage of their life.

The only real small diesel cars of that vintage will probably be something like a Fiesta, 206 or 307. Again I would have my doubts about getting anything decent that doesn't require a lot of money spent on it for under €1k.
