    Hello,

Last week I paid €1.15 for Nestle Rolo sweets (52 gram) at Topaz in Shannon.

It actually scanned €1.25 at the till but I told the cashier that they were marked €1.15 on the shelf.

Most bars of chocolate in there were marked at €1.15 on the shelves.

No place should charge more than €1 for a bar of chocolate.

A complete and utter rip off.

Most convenience stores now have their confectionery prices set at that level. And over 2 euros for a goddamed coffee too. Extortionate bastards, agreed.

Their petrol and diesel is also dear compared to the other garages in the area.

Although there are only 2 garages in Shannon, they both charge the same. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept the prices up because of it being the closest filling station to the airport. Rental cars normally have to be dropped back full..

That texaco is no better either...

Over €2 for a coffee is a bit much, but the price of confectionery has rocketed in the last 12 months. You'll get a special offer on the Cadbury and Galaxy standard bars now and again, (at less than 10% margin might I add), but the standard day to day price of bars has risen and is simply being passed on. For e.g. the RRP for a Flake by Cadbury is now €1.05.

The argument about multi packs being so much cheaper blah blah blah isn't valid as most places have these or similar at pretty good deals at most times nowadays.

Most of them cost the store over a euro these days if you buy from musgraves anyway. Not sure about other wholesalers.

was curious to hear how much the OP thinks they cost since s/he's so sure it's a "complete and utter rip off"

There's your problem, if people (including yourself in this instance) are prepared to pay €1.15, then that's what they'll charge.

I have no idea how much they cost the store.

As per Madyaker's comment I didn't realise it cost the store more than €1 to buy them from Musgraves.
I guess when you see the price multipacks are sold at you automatically assume the convenience stores are making a huge markup selling individual bars of chocolate.

The groutch & tadj: I agree with your comments.

It never amazes me how often people fall for the multipack prices vs. the single bars. A massive amount of the multipack bars are about 30% smaller than the actual retail bars.

When cadbury got bought out by mondelez/kraft, (or whatever they call themselves) cadbury 8 sq went up about 33%. RRP for me on a cadbury bar is now about 1.20.

I generally stay out of these threads now as some people are so preoccupied about big bad shops, I just get wound up.

    BYE!

Ever since chocolate hit the €1 mark I stopped buying it, it's a rare occasion I buy it now at all, I just don't feel €1.15 is worth it. It's probably been good for me, before I used to buy a bar almost every day, now it might be a couple of times a month, it's much easier to maintain my weight when im not gorging on chocolate every day.

Hi there, I work in Retail & let me tell you that the pricing error was probably just an oversight. As for the pricing of the item I'm quite sure it is not down to the individuals working in these stores. I know for certain that I have no say in what our store sells products at. As for the bigger picture here, 10c? Really?? If the chocolate is too expensive for you then buy something else. I think Cream Crackers are about 30c a packet. Try them although they probably don't offer the same satisfaction.

Due to my efforts to lose some weight I can't remember last time I bought a bar in a convenience store (avoid like plague) nor I realised this is so expensive these days.

Lidl, Aldi chocolate for me. Cheap, tasty and enough choice. Happy days.

Ah now, cream crackers with butter and jam :) Hard to beat.

As regards the price of individual bars of chocolate. Yes too bloody expensive. Price creep is having an impact all over the place. I find myself saying 'no' to more and more products. I'll happily trot over to aldi/lidl and get a comparable 'own' brand product. The brand of product doesn't matter a damn to me.

yeah, the Lidl imitation Mars bars do the job fine, and are only 39c iirc.
