shimano 11 speed cassette on 10 speed hub?

I have a nice fulcrum racing 1 comp wheelset on my ultegra 6700 10 speed groupset. If I were to get a new bike with an 11 speed groupset, can I use these wheels on the new bike?

Let's say I'm getting ultegra 6800 on the new bike, can I just pop an 11 speed cassette on the old 6700 freehub, or do I need to replace the freehub too?

The fulcrum website says "Can Fulcrum wheels with freewheel body at 9/10 speeds also be used an 11-speed groupset?
Yes, they can be used without any problem. The Fulcrum freewheel body has not been modified and is compatible with 9/10/11 speeds."

But according to velonews it's not that simple (or I am too simple to understand)
"The fix on some wheels is to get an 11-speed freehub body and a different set of axle end caps or spacers or a new 11-speed axle, but not all generations within a given brand are interchangeable. The fix is to interchange the freehub bodies and put more spacing on the axle’s drive end and less spacing on the axle’s non-drive end. Then you’d re-dish the wheel more to the drive side.
    http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/09/bikes-and-tech/technical-faq/technical-faq-drivetrain-compatibility-for-10-and-11-speed_301392#tDvsF8k86GBsSJgF.99"

    Help me please!

What year is the Wheelset from? generally 2012 hubs don't do 11 speed, some 2013 do, and all 2014 do. You can find out the specifics if you know the year from the interwebs.

All Mavic wheels and the newer Shimano wheels fit 11sp no problem, otherwise check with manufacturer as the offset is different and another freehub won't work. I don't think a Fulcrum 9\10 hub will work with 11sp.

They are 2012, but they claim to support 9-10-11 speed Drivetrain; I bought them from jedi, they still stock them (2012 model), and you choose either Shimano/Sram 9-10-11 drivetrain, or campag, see here:
    http://jedi-sports.de/Wheelsets/Wheelsets-Road/Fulcrum-Racing-1-Comp-Limited-Edition::4283.html

When I download the manual, it doesn't mention 11-speed, but the 2014 racing 1 manual is the exact same document, again with no mention of 11-speed. What it does say is you need a spacer for a 10-speed sprocket, not for 9 or 10.

I can't seem to get a clear answer from the interwebs in this case!

Aye a clear answer is often hard to find, have been looking for some 11sp 2nd hand wheels and had to do alot of googling to try and seperate the compatible ones from the not. No definitive answer here but I would take a punt you are ok, maybe pop by your LBS and ask some advice.

Fulcrum wheels that have a campagnolo compatible freehub are 9, 10, 11 speed compatible; but I believe their older Shimano freehubs aren't 11 speed compatible.

Fulcrum / campagnolo have brought out a newer freehub to accept 11 speed Shimano cassettes. It is a direct replacement to the freehub you have on your fulcrum wheel.

I've had a set of fulcrum 3 (2012/) and can confirm they were not 11 speed compatible

Awesome, many thanks letape. Just wondering, the description says "For use with Shimano 11 and Shimano and SRAM 8, 9 and 10 speed cassettes", is it that my current hub is just older, and pre-11 speed?

No problem Kildafornia. The current model will come with the newer 11 speed compatible freehub fitted, but for any fulcrum wheels a year or more old, they will need to have the freehub replaced with the newer one.

I checked wiggle earlier and they have the freehub you need for £65 or so, but it's not currently in stock.

Good price for it at jedi sports. You'll still get a few bob for the old one if it's in good nick to offset the cost.
