The only thing Microsoft will ever contact you about, is if your xbox live renewal is rejected by your bank.

And even then, it's only by email. And certainly not by phone :pac:

My husband and I strung them along for over an hour on Monday they were pissed at the end of that call. They've called back twice since, I normally aim for about 20 mins a call, every minute they waste with you is a minute they can't use to target someone more vulnerable.

They usually say they are from ABC - Microsoft department relying on the fact you will only hear the Microsoft bit. I feel sorry for Indian ppl who work in legitimate call centres. These muppets have made them difficult to employ here.

haha I asked him for his phone number so I could ring him back:D

    the number he gave me
    18005102419

"Hold on a minute, my laptop is upstairs"
    Put phone on counter

Watch a bit of diagnosis murder

    Notice they've hung up

Wait for them to call back

"Hold on a minute, my laptop is upstairs"

    ~infinite loop~

It doesn't really bother me that my phone line is engaged because the only phone calls I ever get are marketing, scammers and mother in laws

Little do they know, I don't even have stairs... :)

I sing 'Sylvia's Mother' by Dr.Hook down the line to them.

What I do is let them waffle for a bit and then tell them I don't own a computer.

Yes. Apparently Windows Defender has detected a virus on my computer. I find that a little strange as I use Linux.

My mother tells them that they're through to the police station. They hang up straight away. (Say "police" instead of "Garda" station, though. They don't know what that means.)

I don't know why these scammers even bother.
They obviously don't make any money out of it as everyone who has ever answered the phone to them strung them along in some hilarious and creative way.

Got a call yesterday from an "Eric Vincent", by the way are you all VOIP?

I entertained him for a while, gathering his details, never once focusing on my computer, after 5 minutes he realised I knew from the start what he was doing and he started calling me a MotherFlupper and Son of a Witch, with me laughing all the way. I just wish he didnt hang up before I told him that his mother was very disappointed with him.

I cannot post links so please google "the culture shock of indias call centers", and you should find a Forbes article.

According to that article a call centre worker in India can make 15,000 rupee a month (About €180).

    Say 20 calls an hour, 8 hours a day 5 days a week ≈ 3,200 calls a month.

Even a 0.1% success rate is 3 people, scam €60 from each and you cover your staff, everything else is mostly profit.

Make no mistake, they are making money.

I got that call many times, sometimes I hang up, other times I say I have to turn my PC on and just leave him there, more times I say I don't have a computer, another I said my PC was fine and had he being trying to hack in, the last time he hung up when I answered.
