Paris Apartment Rental

    Hi,

Some friends and I are going to Paris this August for a music festival and are considering renting an apartment for the weekend. Probably 4 or 5 of us in total.

Just wondering has anyone on here have any tips from booking a holiday rental in Paris before? Its such a huge city its quite overwhelming to know where to start. I've travelled quite a lot but it's mostly hostels I'm used to so AirB&B and the like are completely alien to me.

The festival is in Domaine National de Saint-Cloud, any tips on which part of Paris is a good base for the weekend?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Your venue is outside the Péripherique (Ring-Road) and you would probably want to stay in a central location though, you're right, there are so many options.

Paris is vast, but I can tell you what I know. Firstly, the Metro is amazing. Stops are relatively close together compared to other cities, so a station is never too far away, and there seems to be a Metro stop close to your event.

So, basically, I think 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th Arrondissements would be good. Within those, I'm most familiar with the areas between Gare St. Lazare/Opéra/Louvre, the main shopping streets around there, also Le Marais (with the Pompidou Centre). Also, a little further along and north of Le Marais is Oberkampf (a much more 'real', yet yuppified, Paris neighbourhood). On the south of the Seine, you've the Left Bank, Saint Germain des Pres, which is 'so Paris', but possibly more expensive and harder to get places, and way north, you've Montmartre, which might be hard to find places, too, but the surrounding lower lying neighbourhoods might be worth a shot (just keep in mind proximity to Metros).

Your event is over in the very, very posh end of town. I find it a bit boring, but you might get lucky with places over by Av. Foch, Chaillot, Ranelagh (though I think Ranelagh starts getting a bit more ordinary somewhere). But that's where the Champs Elysses, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower are, etc.

Totally AirBnB it. You should find great places.

I have to agree 100% with Sarkozy. I took an airbnb rental near the Sacre Coeur. I found it very easy to book as once I had selected the property from AirBnB I dealt directly with the owner who met me there the day arrived. The metro is fantastic and you will have no problems finding your way around. Enjoy!

I have booked a couple of apartments in the centre of Paris the last few times. I always use homeaway.com and have not been disappointed yet. As mentioned above the metro is excellent. Last one i got was in the shadow of the Eiffel tower and loved it.. 3 adults and two kids we were that time.
