Connection time Bangkok airport

    Hi all,

Travelling to Koh Samui Saturday week and just had a query about connections in bangkok airport.

We are travelling Dub - Ams - BKK on route via KLM and Bangkok airways to samui. The flight from Dublin is an airlingus code share with KLM.

We booked through a travel agent and I was just reviewing our ticket info today.
We have 1 hour and 25 mins if everything is on time to get to our flight for samui in BKK. Is this enough time? I see on Bangkok airs website they say to allow 75 mins but has anyone actually done this? I am hoping our luggage will be checked through and we will have our boarding cards from Dublin.

I think the flight arrives at 9.35am so I am unsure if the airport is busy at this time.

We had something similar with Etihad last summer - think 90 min connection time which was halved due to our flight into Bangkok being late. By the time we got off our flight we had 30 mins till take off to Phuket.

Bangkok airport is quite big though and we had to go from one side to another but made it in time. Bangkok Airways were super though - very friendly and flight was open till we got on at which point they closed the door and pretty much taxied out. Security and ticket checking was super quick as well.

Your timing looks ok if you land on time and ask someone when you get off where you need to go and you'll be fine.

Hi, I know this post is quite some time ago but I would be interested to know how you got on with flight connections etc. Hard to believe but it's been 25 years since I have been to Koh Samui, great memories. My main issues are with shared flight partnerships on a flight ticket which many times can be problematic where there is no direct flight, Dublin to Bangkok being a prime example. Hope you have happy memories from Koh Samui. Regards.

Anyone having issues with connecting flights to Koh Samui due to time, i'd suggest just to contact Bangkok Airways, if that's who you are flying with and explain your situation and see if they will change the times. They changed dates for me last time without any hassle or fees and all done in a few hours over email. It was also a promo fare so that had nothing to do with the no charges.

Still my favourite airline to travel with(price taken into consideration) and will fly with them again without hassle.

No issues at all with internal domestic connections, I have traveled Nok Air, Malaysian and and Bangkok airways many times. However, due to there being no direct flights, what I really wanted to discuss was originating flights Ex Dublin and code sharing connections with partner airlines. Perhaps I should commence a new thread ? :-)

I believe Etihad and Qatar will take you all the way to Samui as they are partners with Bangkok Airways. Qatar start flying out of Dublin in June and have some good prices on flights to Thailand if you are flexible with your dates(monday to friday) It will be 2 stops obviously but bags would go all the way through to your destination

We flew last year from Cork to AMS to Kuala Lumpur to BKK checked through with KLM and Aer Lingus. All arrived well and at time. For the swap to Koh Samui, we stayed some days in BKK, so cannot say if this would have also worked.

That is interesting, I didn't know that. There has always been limited choice out of Ireland and I am happy to see another alternative coming on board. So now we have Etihad, Emirates and Qatar, all middle eastern airlines. I also heard talk about Finnair proposing to operate out of Ireland.
From experience, I would advise Irish travelers to stick with the above even if a little more expensive as flying BA. KL or AF on code share out of Dublin is always a risk. Code sharing City Jet and Aer Lingus can delay, cancel or postpone a connection which they often do in a blink of an eye and without explanation, which invariably often leads one up the creek without a paddle and with a ton of stress in delays and alternative connections.
Thank you for the above information re: Qatar.

I also heard talk about Finnair proposing to operate out of Ireland.

They already fly from Dublin daily and are increasing their schedules this summer.

Air France will be operating DUB-CDG themselves from November so you won't have that problem. KLM also fly from DUB-AMS now and are ending their codeshare with EI. Although BA still codeshare with EI, they also fly DUB-LHR multiple times daily.
You really shouldn't have that problem anymore.

Lufthansa, Swiss and Turkish Airlines also offer good long haul connections.

But do the above airlines partner with another airline to bring the OP onto Samui without needing to go through customs and collecting baggage and checking in again.

I think thats what he's looking for.

That's very interesting. Good to hear that Air France will be operating directly from Dublin later in the year and dropping the code share. BA also have a code share with EI which is sometimes problematic also.
As you can tell, I have serious issues with flight ticket code share connections and am not at all happy with either CityJ or EI.
Thank you very much for the useful information, much appreciated :-)

He is flying with Bangkok Airways from Bangkok to Samui and they have a codeshare agreement with KLM so there is no need to collect baggage or anything. They would have not sold that ticket if you did have to.

He flew two and a half years ago so I'd say he has his answer by now.

The thread started 2.5 years ago but if you look at post 3 you will see a new question asked. You should read the thread before jumping right in. ;)

I did read the thread. Post 3 asked the original poster how he got on. He hasn't answered.;)

Maybe he found love on a tropical island and never came back? :)
