Will he be the most talented forgotten boxer to step into the ring. He's 30 now with no signs of fighting soon due to his contract dispute. It just seems like such a waste of talent.

Ward is a very passionate fighter and is clearly not going to back down so I expect him to be back soon and have a great few years left in him yet. His promoter can't afford to miss out on all that money too. Ward has a big deal with HBO and that's too big to just argue over.

I'm sure it'll be resolved soon. I wouldn't be too worried regardless. I can't see him take the route as Dirrell, Pavlik and Taylor tbh. The guy is so talented he could easily be the kingpin of SMW into his late 30's. I don't see any boxer beating him. Besides Rigondeaux he's the only fighter atm I'm confident will win any fight comfortably.

Great news. Ward is one of my favourite boxers and I think there isn't a SMW in history that could beat him.

I would love if he fought Dirrell this year...because let's face it Froch won't fight him and I think next year will be the earliest we'll have even a chance of GGG/Ward as GGG seems concentrated on cleaning out MW first.

Only guy who could beat Ward for sure and vice versa. Had Roy stayed at SMW I might change my answer but I would consider Roy a LHW really and it was hard to judge his abilities as a SMW even though his win against Toney was incredible. Ward is as clever as Hopkins in my eyes, knows all the tricks and technically he is as good as anyone. Roy's speed and instincts were remarkable back then, and could be too much for Ward, stylistically it is Ward's nightmare but I think Ward has a knack to neutralise his opponent's strengths and his clever tactics upsets his opponents a lot. It would be a fascinating fight, Roy is my favourite boxer of all time but I just think Ward would shade a decision.

I regard Jones as a middle/supermiddle first and foremost. In my opinion and many others, he was at his peak at supermiddle.

I can't see Ward (a) outboxing Roy from the outside or (b) being able to get close enough to use his very effective in-game on Roy. You compare Ward to Hopkins, who Jones beat comfortably. Hopkins also had a better chin and at the time hit harder than Ward. It still didn't help him. People always talk about "reflexes and athleticism" when discussing Jones, but I honestly think he was the most intelligent boxer I have ever seen. For fifteen years he was always a step ahead of every opponent. I see Jones winning this one quite handily.
