Is it just me or are "HR" and "recruitment departments" the worst and above all SLOWEST in this country.

I have been unemployed for three months now.I applied for a position back in late Feb.
I got the call to do the first interview on 09th April to interview on 22nd April.
I got the next call on 07th May to do the second interview on 14th May.
To this day I haven't heard back and I have sent an update mail asking if there is an update, the job is still up.

I applied for another position back on 25th May and haven't got the first call yet, the job is still up.

So why does the recruitment process take so long in this country? There are plenty of people that are unemployed and looking for work so its not down to the low application level.
I read that "Nowadays, if managers speak to a really great candidate, instead of hiring him, they take it as an indication that there must be 10 even better people out there"

HR departments and people are useless.

    Waste of space.

So many people that some companies don't care about getting to people who don't get the job?

Don't let it get you down, OP. I changed jobs last year, the recruitment process took about 3 months. If you've already had a face to face with your hiring manager and it's taking a long time to hear back from them I'd start applying for more jobs if I were you, just in case.

Hope it works out for you.

You'll also find that the person dealing with HR also deals with accounts, sales, admin, etc and doesn't have the time.

Not usually their fault either. To cut costs, companies made several people redundant and passed all the work of the different departments onto one person.

My apologies to anyone whom I forgot to reply to, it wasn't intentional :(

You mightn't get a call to interview!

This part in my experience is not true, it means that the candidate is missing something that is required. Could be demeanour, team player or something other.

    Totally agree with the above
But are we not in an age now where mail merge emails are used on a daily basis.
Wouldn't take very long for a rep to paste a template and mail merge it to all unsuccessful candidates saying "Sorry, we wont be taking your application further.".

I think companies are damaging their reputation by not replying to these applicants.

Plus, playing the waiting game stinks!!!

Any reason why HR/recruitment would be so much better elsewhere? They aren't a waste of space in big companies, that's for sure - they're obviously required. When people are looking for a job, it's understandable that people become frustrated with them, but they're just thinking of their own CV, not the hundreds of others.

Got a new HR recently, like an entire new HR...

Imo everyone who applies deserves a call and a suggestion as to why they didnt get the job ie the honesty of a fcuking phone call to let them know. New HR thinks differently (did workshops and ****) knows better seemingly.

I still insist everyone who was interviewed is contacted and I feel I am a dying breed.

    HR *****.

I find when HR are slow / bad, it's an indication of the company itself. I was applying for jobs recently and the ones who were all over the place I found there were issues with the whole set up later - and these in cases were big companies. The job I got, they were quick, decisive and professional. How they work internally.

The sad thing is that HR jobs aren't respected the way that they should be, and so a lot of these jobs in HR go to people who couldn't get anything else and who may not even be qualified in that area. If HR departments had higher standards of people in them then things would be much better.

My experience of HR is that the primary qualification required for the job is an innate hatred of people in general. I was once on vaguely friendly terms with a guy from the HR department in an old firm until we had the following conversation - he was telling me what a terrible day he'd had, because he'd had to make ten people redundant (one of whom was a good friend of mine). I agreed that it must be a horrible thing to do, breaking such awful news, and really stressful for him - he said yes, the worst part was all the paperwork as it took so long. A nasty piece of work, upending people's livelihoods and all he cared about was the forms taking him a while to fill in.

try Linkedin. More and more people are being hired through Linkedin recently based on a keyword search on certain areas of specialty or profession.
