my grandmother passed away a couple of weeks ago. I've done a tribute video only for Facebook to say it's copyright. How could a holy song be a copyright "ONE DAY AT A TIME" it turns my stomach that there's videos of people been murdered hit with cars all that stuff and Facebook allow it. Can anybody guide me to somebody who can help me. Please. I can't find an email or anything. They really know how to hurt somebody.

Don't use copyrighted material in your video is the simplest answer.

    It's a tribute video. A church song.

I don't see the relevance to the copyright issue. In fact I have no idea what "a church song" is supposed to imply.

Did you re-record the song, or just use one you found on the internet.

The specific recording may be copyright even if the song isn't

    First, sorry for your loss.
I do understand you and don't get me wrong, I really don't like Facebook but in this case, shame the recording industry and the copyright laws, not Facebook.
They are doing that because either the music/song was automatically identified as one where someone has right and do not want it to be used without being paid or someone has requested removal on the same ground.
If Facebook did not act, they would be liable to being sued and so on and they won't take the chance.

I understand the whole copyright. And understand laws. But obvious Facebook has it's own laws allowing videos of people Been beheaded set of fire stuff like that. Stuff that's sickening to watch. No problem it's allowed.

    Somehow I don't think that's true.

Sony own the copyright to "One Day At A Time" which isn't a "church song" but a C&W song recorded by Marilyn Sellars in the '70s. Facebook are required to remove anything that infringes copyright, so don't blame them. Instead pick on the MPAA.

Sorry for your trouble and your loss. Grandmothers are special and I can understand your frustration particularly at the present time.

As a work around, upload your video to Dropbox or a Google drive, and just share out the link to it.

Technically if you are including a soundtrack, it may be a breach of copyright (even though it is your grandmother singing on it, the song itself - lyrics and tune - is a Kris Kristoferson song from early 1970's) so copyright is alive and well on it, but I can't imagine Mr. Kristoferson being too bothered by you posting it for your family/friends to enjoy.

There shouldn't be an issue as it is your granny singing the song. This must have escaped their attention.

If it was the recorded version there would rightfully be a copyright issue which often slips by on FB, but I know of others that had videos removed also. A friend posted a lovely montage of wildlife photos he had taken set to a popular song and it was taken down.

You state it is a church song, and even if that were so (it's not…it's a C&W song) somebody still wrote it and deservedly hold the copyright.

Classical music is your best bet to set a tribute video to as the copyright has expired.

Technically incorrect, alas. Performance is still performance.
