Can anyone advice on the best place to buy a bat detector and suitable types? I need to acquire one for a college project over the summer and have little experience as to the best types. Also not looking to remortgage the house to get one :)

i bought a magenta bat5 detector from alana ecology, who have since been taken over by this crowd:

    http://www.nhbs.com/

the bat5 doesn't have any fancy schmancy gizmos like recording or the like.

I have one in a drawer somewhere, might be willing to sell if I can find it! :-)

It's nothing fancy now, but does the job! Only used it for couple of survays, so in very good nick!

It really depends on what you want to do with it. If you're planning to make and look at recordings on a computer you'll need a time expansion detector
