I went to An Obair for help with updating my C.V. I put it up on Irish Jobs and a recruiting firm rang looking for an updated version saying the layout was not very well done. Could anybody recommend any online sites that have a good template or offer advice on a good layout for your C.V.

First off, if the recruitment agency have a role in mind for you, then push them for advice.

    Anyway, in its simplest form:

    Contact Information
    Experience in reverse chronological information
    Education

You can add to that if you want:

    Contact Information
Personal Statement (not overly keen on these personally)
    Experience in reverse chronological information
    Education
Interests (not "socialising, cinema and book reading" - any interests that might have transferable skills and/or demonstrate your personal interest in the area you're applying for. Otherwise leave it out).

If your education is more relevant than your work experience, then you could swap them so education is first.

There are lots of templates online, but many of them are a bit fussy. You can have a nice looking CV with a simple layout. Try and avoid big blocks of text - use bullet points to break up lists of things like your current duties. Don't use Times New Roman font; it's a print font and just looks ugly on a screen IMO.
