Anxiety

    Hi,
I have kinda come to the decision that I need to seek help. I am planning on making a gp appointment in the next week, tho I'm really good at talking myself out of things. My thing is that I need a vague idea of how this conversation is going to go before I get there... I know no one can know exactly how it'll go, but I am scared I'm just gonna go in freak out refuse to talk and then leave having a massive panic attack in the privacy of my car outside.

The anxiety thing has been going on years, with tolerable periods and more intense times, I have ignored it for the most part but in the last 2 years the more intense periods are getting longer and worse. I don't want to go anywhere have anxiety attacks sat in a very good friends house for no reason that I can pinpoint. So I know I need to do something. Just not sure how to start the conversation with my gp. I always feel like an infant when sat infront of doctors. I've tried talking to friends and family but I don't seem to manage to explain how I am feeling very well which also worries me about speaking to dr.

Any help or words of wisdom appreciated.
    Thanks,
    AG

OP, as you may know we can't give medical advice, but we can ask posters here on the best way to approach the GP without getting into specifics or mentioning treatments etc. Hope that is OK.

I think you should write everything down before your appointment to ensure you cover everything you want to cover. This could include a diary of panic attacks, frequency, symptoms, catalysts etc. If you get a dossier together before the consultation of what you think is important it should really help. Also, doctors are just people and are there to help you so you really shouldn't feel intimidated. The more you can open up the more they can assist you in finding you the right treatment. Best of luck!
