Here is one of the most common dealer options and how to avoid getting ripped off.

--- Paint Sealant or Protection ---

This is one instance where the dealership hopes the car buyer will be gullible enough to believe that it’s using some special technique and material that’ll keep your car’s paint looking factory fresh, when it’s typically the same products found at any motor factors or Halfords.

Instead take the money you’d pay the dealer to “seal” your paint and spend it on a professional detailer.

Dealers don't have the know how or skill that is needed to correctly apply paint sealants or protection coatings to a vehicles paint, they are trained to sell.

The couple of places I've worked offered the autoglym lifeshine stuff I think it was. In both cases its put on by an outside valeter that also does the valeting on the cars that have been sold.

Only last night I seen a car wash/valeting place in Derry offering paint sealant for £8.50 and I was wondering if it would be worth a punt.

i worked in the valet department of a dealership in perth in my teens and they used to valet everything before it was sold or given back to the customer after servicing.

washed, waxed and polished every car inside and out, it was just the done thing.

mind you, that was nearly 20 years ago, i have no doubt standards have slipped a little since then! :)

Adding a 'shine' is still a given but that's all it is, shine for a week.
To properly apply these sealants one needs to do a number of steps before even thinking of going to the last step which is the sealant.

Who has been offered a package like this ??
