    Hi
I'm 17 and current member of OMAC. I'm a CFR currently but will be going on to do EFR and EMT In time.. I also hope to do a pre nursing course next year, and I have 5 years of water safety, emergency related, under my belt. I'm aware that a PHECC EMT will exclude a science subject (I don't do biology) but I'm wondering with my PHECC EMT( all going well), all my OMAC years, my nursing course and my water safety qualifications, what are my chances of getting into the HSE to work as a paramedic, provided I have my D1 and C1 licenses.
    Thanks, jack

You will still need your leaving certificate. The experiences you've mentioned would certainly be a positive addition within your application forms but you would still need to pass the structured interview.

Also keep in mind regarding the CAO where paramedic science will be done through one of the universities, recruitment in the future may come from there.

The best of luck for the future.

they will stand to you, but more from the experiences, interpersonal and communication skills that you'll gain from your time as a member.

At aptitude test stage it doesnt matter who you are or what you do, that only starts to become important during the competency based application form, and then if successful, interview.
You could have a million titles under your belt but unless you can explain in the interview how you use them and work with other people(etc etc) they wont mean much.

I was always told an EMT course would suffice instead of a science subject when applying for HSE Paramedic. Is this not the case so?

Also Bang Bang, is it definitely going the CAO route?

it was for the last recruitment and ones previous to it ever since they changed the entry criteria. It could change again, and it looked almost 99.9999% its going cao with UL and UCD advertising it on their websites.

One downside of the cao route is it could be up to 3 years before there are boots on the ground, long time without new blood if you take into account those leaving the services due to retirement etc. .

not really....there's about 150-200 on the current panel. Plenty to keep us going

Thanks for that. Looking at those college websites and it looks that way alright.

I was planning on doing EMT later this year but now im not so sure. It's a lot of money after all so maybe just wait to see the criteria for the college route might be a better option.

    Your opinions?
