Their is an app in the iTunes app store called 'The irish sun' it is a free app, its currently at number 38 in the app store,
When you download the app it installs as 'sun mobile' but when you go to use the app you can not use it at all unless you buy an in app purchase for €4.,49
    this is a scam app,
they are advertising it as a free app to get high in the charts but it is anything but, its a scam app that you cant use unless you pay 4.49
I don't think this is very fair that they can do this?
I tried to leave a review on the appstore but it wont show up? anyone any idea why? and do you think apple know that the sun are scamming them to get higher in the app store?

    Grossly misleading thread title.

It's not spam, you're just sticking the knife in because you didn't notice that just below the app icon it says 'in-app purchases' which in the case of a newspaper app clearly tells you that you have to pay for content.

The Guardian, the Economist and several other non-tabloid apps employ exactly the same format - free app, pay for content and in both cases you can clearly see the 'in-app purchases' notice below the download button.

it should appear in newsstand like anything else that charges like that
ok so some charge, well sky news, RTE news now, tv3 news, the independent, the Irish times, theJournal.ie, DailyEdge.ie and many other top ones have mobile apps don't charge a single cent! its the internet! cop on news is free here, every search engine has it!! the app is in my opinion spam as it is misleading as it clearly should be in the newsstand section and not as a stand alone app,
the app is just free to get people to download it and to make a one off payment after that,
they read the news and odv wanna get in on theis 'in app purchases' racket!!!

"...........its the internet! cop on news is free here......."

And there it is. If you want 'free news' stick to twitter et al.

The sun charge because they have a package to offer. You'll be devastated to hear that the irish Times are going behind a paywall by the end of the year - so, they'll charge too.

The app stated you had to have a subscription.

"ha ha ha ha ha you know I'm right"

'coylemj' I see you have no reply now ha ha ha ha ha you know I'm right

It took you three days to reply to my post so I'm well within my rights to take the same length of time replying to you. In fact I assumed you had lost interest when you hadn't replied for two days.

McDonalds don't charge you to enter their restaurants but guess what - you want food, you pay for it.

The charging model used by several news organisations is no different.

ha ha ha do you hear yourself ha ha ha ha ha!!

We are not talking about charging anyway, we are talking about how it is advertised wrongly and in the complete wrong area, it should be in news stand! after all the sun is a newspaper ha ha or am I wrong about that too!! (I think you need to read all the comments again and refresh yourself on this as you haven't a clue!!!
Regardless,,, More to the point,, you still didn't reply to the comment before that! you just picked up on the point I said you didn't reply but you are still yet to address my comments in the previous post to that!
