Second interview - help required

    Some help required.

I had an interview a few weeks ago for a senior role. The interview went well and I felt everything was covered. The interview was with the person I would be a reporting to and HR/Recruitment manager.

Got a call asking me to come back for second interview. The interview is with the exact same two people. I find this a bit strange as expected it would have been with someone different.

Can anyone advise what type of questioning will take place at the second interview? What to prepare in advance? For the previous interview I was able to discuss my CV in detail, had prepared numerous examples of competencies and researched the company. I have never had a second interview before as all previous offers were decided after one.

    Thanks in advance.

Iv not interviewed for senior roles. But I have had a couple of rounds of interviews before. You could be down to two or three people and they are going to suss you out a bit more and maybe some specific questions regarding the position and where you see it going ? In this climate it's not un common. Especially if they are going to invest time and money in you.
I would prepare again as if it was the first interview !
Good luck and congratulations on the progress so far !

    Thanks.
I'm not sure though to do the same prep as have a feeling they may be looking for something different from this interview.
Example: What will I do in the role as opposed to examples of what I did before - if that makes sense.

Sounds a little unusual, but off the top of my head:

Maybe the role has changed slightly

They're 90% sold on you, but might have a couple of questions that they're giving you a chance to clear up

The manager's manager might drop in for a few minutes for a chat, but not conduct the whole thing

Some sort of aptitude/behavioural test etc (though it'd be a bit unfair not to give you notice of this)

Thanks Eoin. I think they may be 90% convinced about me.

Can you offer any suggestions of what to prepare in advance?

Did they ask you any questions as to what you would expect to achieve in the first three/six months of being in the role?

Also did they ask you what specific challenges you would forsee in the role, or what areas you would consider be key to get to grips with and in what order of priority?

They did but on honest reflection I probably didn't answer those questions as good as other areas on of the interview.

I'd say they want to probe all of that a bit more so.

And will be expecting that you'll have thought about it a bit more in prep for the interview.

In case they do ask you similar questions to the first interview have some new examples for the competencies of the role as well.

Had the second interview. Only with the same people but far more intensive than the first in terms of probing and challenging my answers.

Found it very tough as a lot of questions relation to hypothetical situations and what would I do if I was in that situation.

Very hard to judge how I got on so will wait and see..
