If you have only had a couple of lessons, don't worry about it. Everyone is terrified when they first start. How much practice driving are you doing? That is the best way to get used to being behind the wheel of a car and calm the nerves.

If you have had several lessons and you still feel very nervous, consider changing instructors. The better ones can instill confidence in their pupils, as well as teach them the mechanics of driving. Talk to your instructor about why you feel so nervous & what you can do to fix it. Perhaps he is trying to teach you things that you are not ready for, or take you on roads that you are not ready for, or tackle certain driving situations that you are not ready for. Have a chat about keeping things more simple for a while.

Have a rethink about where you could go to practice your driving and/or do your lessons. If there are any industrial estates or large car parks near you, they can be great places to drive and build up your confidence, without having to deal with the complications of proper roads.

Don't feel bad about being so nervous. Every one learns how to drive at a difference pace. Sometimes instructors need to be reminded that their 'one size fits all' approach doesn't suit everyone.

I am learning myself and I feel exactly the same way, particularly about standing starts and finding the bite of the clutch and holding it.

Perhaps if you gave a bit more detail of what aspects of driving you find difficult, people could offer up some more specific advise that may help you.

That's one of those things you will just 'get'. You'll wonder how you were ever not able to judge it. Practice.
