    i have a 2009 macbook pro 13inch,

i can upgrade to mavericks, (and today i decided i would as i really want to) BUT it warned me of a powerpc app recently used and told me i would no longer be able to play it,

i have age of empires 2 gold edition on cd for macintosh and i do play it regularly, at the moment i've played it on and off for the past 7 days, before that at least once a week.

by on and off i mean, i could between games come back to chrome to check on online things and back to age of empires (so partitioning snow leopard or windows 7 is not an easy or workable option for me)

what are my options here? do i have any? is there any way to get this game (in any format even? i tried steam but its windows only :( )to run on Mavericks?

Run Windows as a VM on Mavericks for your game is one option if you really want to have Mavericks.

is that really the only way to get Age of Empires 2 on Mavericks? i know it might sound silly as it is just a game, but i missed it so much when i got my macbook first, my husband bought me the mac version, and i don't want to lose it again.

it would be one of the only legal way. i know for certain that that game is on a particular banned website in ireland;)

If you want to play the game, but you can't on Mavericks, then why upgrade? :pac:

If it's just to have the latest Mac OS, then, to be honest, I'd leave it with whatever OS version you're on, and continue to enjoy AoE 2.

There's a port for AoE2 on Mavericks on the "Paul the Tall" website (Up to you whether to test it or not). Have a read around the web to see if it's any good. There may be other ports for download that you can try, but to be honest, if you want to keep playing the game, I'd stay on whatever OS X version you're on now.

i'd like to stay as legal as i can here, if it is possible, i have no problem paying for the game a third time if i have to (bought it for windows, then mac, )

but yes, i am on snow leopard and it is great, i was told that Mavericks was worth upgrading to, and i know eventually they's stop supporting my current OS, but so far i am staying on 10.6.8

i may invest in new hardware though so i might keep this laptop for gaming only, i saw the paul the tall thing when i was googling for a solution i just said i'd post here as maybe boardsies found a way to make it work that i am not seeing or that isn't on macrumours or the apple support forums.

There doesn't seem to be an official release or update planned for it, through Steam or otherwise it seems. Other than the 'Paul the Tall' link, here's what's on the AoE community forums, which is probably about as good as it gets unfortunately: http://www.ageofempires.com/Forums/yaf_postst413_Any-plans-for-a-Mac-version.aspx

Not really sure what's best for you to do really. While there are nice aspects to Mavericks, I guess you'll need to decide which you feel is more important; new apple software or global domination :)

The game was released in a hd version which is available on mac that runs on mavericks as I had it.
