Hi myself & my hubby are going to Thailand in September for 3 weeks. Any recommendation for a good insurance company?

I am not sure that any insurance would do standard cover for a country that's under a coup.
We usually use getcover.ie, but you'll need to ring them to find out exactly what they'd cover in Thailand at the moment, e.g. maybe lost luggage on a flight, medical emergency that's not related to the coup, but unlikely repatriation if things get worse over there.

The insurance will cover you unless the government advises against travel to the country. Our government hasn't yet.

EDIT/ Actually my justcover policy mentions the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (UK) and the WHO so it doesn't really matter what our little government says!

We booked a holiday to Thailand months ago and are due to depart early July. We have a yearly travel insurance policy and renewed this about a week ago. If the Irish Government (or whoever the policy dictates) advise against travel, are we entitled to a refund of what we paid for the holiday?

You'd have to ask the insurance company. Every policy is different.

Unless there's a major escalation in protests (very unlikely) there won't be a travel warning.

Thanks for the replies. I spoke to 123.ie and they said as long as the Dept of Foreign Affairs havent advised not to travel we will be covered.

Fair play to you for the update! May be useful for others to know this as well...

I went in June too and asked the insurance company what the situation was and there response was that so long as you weren't caught up directly in any coup activities, EG getting injured whilst taking photos at a protest march then you were covered.

The situation is very calm and I have to say I would have never noticed only that it was a lot quieter than usual.
