I applied for a jb position with a local hotel, basically working as a grounds keeper and working in their poly tunnels. I've a lot of experience in this area from my part time work in the past. I've applied for a lot of positions, both casual and positions related to my degree, since I finished work just before Christmas last. I'd like to work at this job as it really would be nice to get out and about and do some work. I've applied to companies in my area offering to go on work experience for free, meaning I'd sign off and live of my savings.

My dilemma is that I'll be leaving Ireland at the end of August as I'll be studying my postgrad. I'm meeting them tomorrow, if I'm upfront about my situation am I effectively shooting myself in the foot? The position is 6 months long but surely they get people leaving after a certain time anyways. Should I just wait and see if they actually ask me if I'm going to be around for six months or if they ask what my future plans are?

This isn't really much of a dilemma, maybe I'm over thinking this.:o

My advice would be keep quiet about your plans and get as much experience in as you can before you do your PG studies ;) Jobbridge is taking advantage of people anyways so it's really NONE of their business what your plans are. Wish you all the best!

Keep it quiet - worst case scenario you don't get a reference but if you do a good job and explain your situation in a few months that can be avoided.

Thanks, I'm probably making a lot out of this! I think I'll keep it to myself, it's entirely plausible to tell them I got offered a place to study in a month or so if I was offered the position. Wouldn't need a reference and wouldn't see myself working with the hotel in the future. I guess if they wanted staff to stay on longer they should just offered a part time position instead of this.

The work experience has nothing to do with my studies, it's just something to do during the week really. I'd just feel a lot better working and doing something

    Hi

I have found myself in this same situation.
Did you get the BTEA in the end?
And when did you apply for it?

@Istevo: I don't think there was any mention of BTEA. You are not entitled to that if you study abroad or if you are doing your MA here. If you are entitled to BTEA you will be informed before the commencement of your Undergrad/HDip course, and your dole will be switched to BTEA payments the week you start college.

    Hi,

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. I'm self funding my studies, I'm pretty sure that's the case for all MSc/MBA/MA, some IT related courses may have reduced tuition fee's.
