Well half the year almost gone ! and heres the Republics favourite films so far.

    The Lego Move €3.3M
The Wolf Of Wall Street €2.3m
    12 years a slave €1.8M
The Amazing Spider Man 2 €1.7m
    Calvary €1.5M
    Bad Neighbours €1.5M
    American Hustle €1.3M
    Frozen €1.3M
Captain America: The Winter Soldier 1.3M
    Mr Peabody & Sherman €1.1M

Really surprised to see Bad Neighbours in there. I also think that list will change an awful lot in the second half as you get the summer blockbusters and the kids movies for Christmas. Didnt think it was great myself but its good to see an Irish film breaking the Top Ten.

In fairness I'd say that's debatable. Just because a lot of people paid to see something doesn't mean they necessarily liked it.

Some very fine films on the list though. Glad that a film as provocative and challenging as 12 Years a Slave did so well in box office terms.

I agree - went to see a few of the films above but my favorite film so far this year isnt on that list and I suspect its nowhere near the Top Ten box office draws - Grand Budapest Hotel.

Yeah it is nice though that Grand Budapest Hotel had great word of mouth, eventually hitting first place after 3 weeks. I'd take it over Bad Neighbors any day of the week.

Actually Grand Budapest has been a massive box office success. There's an article about its UK take in Sight & Sound last month (over 6 million pounds) and it has surely climbed significantly since then. Lighthouse were still showing it last I checked, several months after release. It benefited massively from enthusiastic word of mouth. Didn't it actually do the unthinkable and climb to first place in the Irish box office over the course of several weeks? That's a real rarity these days when most films' commercial performance is made or broken in the first three days.

Bad Neighbours was given a massive release before it's official opening in a week when nothing was on, great marketing seen as they had no reviewers review it beforehand.

Shocked that Spiderman did better then Captain America as the word of mouth of spiderman wasn't great. Good to see 12 year a Slave and Wolf of wall Street do well and also the Lego movie which was a smart and funny kids movie.

Most people on here are die hard film fans so that's a given, I loved it myself Anderson best film since Rushmore thanks to Fiennes performance. Bad Neighbours got good box office cause of smart marketing by the Studio.
